You may remember Steve Kennedy as the owner of Steve’s Snaketuary, a man who is looking to change the perception of snakes through education. I’ve visited his Snaketuary where I introduced you to some of his snake celebrities (they’ve appeared in local film productions) and even had the opportunity feed one.
But, did you know he also has a hot sauce line with heat levels tailored to that of venomous snakes? The hot sauces will pair well with a host of meals as you head out for 318 Restaurant Week.
The six flavors are sold in 5 oz bottles that are sure to add flavor to all sorts of delicious cuisine. Many of the options are vegan, gluten-free, or vegetarian.
The Copperhead Venom Sauce, or Carolina Red Pepper hot sauce, is the lowest level of heat at 3.5 out of ten. This is definitely one of my favorites! It has a kick to it but will also light your taste buds up with flavor.
Chipotle & Blood Orange, or the Canebrake Rattlesnake sauce, has a slight more kick to it at 5 out of ten. The chipotle adds some extra spice that is great on chicken wings or similar items.
The Cottonmouth Venom Sauce is unique in that it’s the only green hot sauce in the group. With a heat level of 6, it carries one of the best flavors of the line, with a lime kick that will pair with a multitude of dishes.
Next, at a 6.5 out of ten heat level, we’ve got the Pygmy Rattlesnake hot sauce. This one definitely packs the heat but also has some hints of sweetness with cherries and red wine.
At an 8 out of ten heat level, we’ve got Coral Snake Venom Sauce, or Pineapple, Mango, Banana, Jerk Sauce. The Jerk Sauce is one of the most flavorful of the group. It adds heat but also provides hints of pineapple, mango, banana, ginger, and garlic for a flavor explosion in your mouth!
When you reach the peak, snake venom isn’t enough. We need anti-venom. Polyvalent Anti-venom hot sauce is the hottest with a heat level of eleven out of ten. It has a noticeable heat from the rest of the group. With the flavor often overshadowed by the heat, this is definitely for the pro looking to really kick it up a notch!
Some friends and I decided to get together and try all of the flavors on some unseasoned wings. Check out our reactions below.
You can purchase them individually or as a group by visiting Steve’s Snaketuary on Facebook or visiting his website at www.stevessnaketuary.com.
