LSU Shreveport announces a historic achievement as it crosses the 10,000 student threshold for the first time in its esteemed history. With a final spring enrollment count of 10,214 students, LSUS celebrates a significant milestone that reflects its commitment to academic excellence and student success.
Dr. Robert Smith, Chancellor of LSUS, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “For the first time in LSUS history, our enrollment has surpassed 10,000 students, thanks to increases in both undergraduate and graduate enrollments. This is the result of hard work on behalf of everyone on campus as LSUS continues to focus on the success of our students, recruiting students and working to retain them through graduation.”
The unprecedented growth in enrollment, a nearly 17% increase from the previous year, can be attributed to various factors including the expansion of graduate student programs and the implementation of year-round start dates. Despite nationwide challenges facing higher education institutions, LSUS continues to thrive, showcasing a 478-student increase from the previous fall semester.
“Students are looking for the programs we have,” shared Chancellor Smith. “Many universities across the nation are dropping programs that students aren’t taking anymore, but we have a great mix of programs that meet student demand and workforce needs. It’s not just programs that students want, it’s programs that also lead to well-paying jobs.”
LSU Shreveport recognized for commitment to student success
In addition to its record-breaking enrollment numbers, LSUS is being recognized for its commitment to student success and economic mobility. The University’s graduate enrollment has reached an all-time high, with 7,756 students, making it the leading institution for graduate education in the state of Louisiana. LSUS also received top honors in the Economic Mobility Index, affirming its role in helping low-income students achieve socioeconomic advancement through education.
