Hunter Crab opens off E. 70th Street

Hunter Crab, located in the former Larry’s Pizza and Chef Lee location, has finally opened it’s door to the public. A coming soon banner on the building several months ago peaked the interest of many, but it seemed the building may never open as time dragged on. After walking into the front entrance, it’s immediately clear what took so long.

The interior has been completely revamped with large illuminated crabs, pirates, and even barrel-shaped lighting. It’s one of the most fun interiors I’ve seen in Shreveport-Bossier.

Upon first glance at the menu, it appears this is more of a fine dining restaurant, which is somewhat expected as a seafood restaurant. The pricing definitely reflected that with some combos being upwards of $130.

I opted for a half-pound of the headless shrimp with garlic butter seasoning and medium heat. You can choose your individual preference for seasoning and heat level, which is a nice touch. The garlic butter seasoning was delicious and the medium option was the perfect balance of flavor and heat.

We also tried the gumbo soup. It was a little thinner than I would have liked, but still very tasty. It did have a ton of okra, most of which was undercooked. I’d like to attribute this to them still being so new as they were still training employees on the cash register as we checked out. With the flavor there, I’m confident this will be a delicious dish in the future.

The onions rings were our appetizer. I was a little disappointed in these, especially after the other dishes had so much flavor. These were rather bland with no seasoning or spices in the flour. Perhaps, these are still a work in progress.

There is also a long bar that has yet be stocked, but will be a great addition very soon.

Overall, the food was great. Our server was so kind and cheerful. The pricing will be a deterrent from me being a frequent guest; however, the large space bodes itself well to birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.
