The Louisiana Food Prize announced the seven local chef finalists who will be competing at Prize Fest 2022 during a live stream on August 15. These chefs will battle it out for a cash prize and the title of Golden Fork Champion. The finals will happen at Prizes Fest’s Come and Get It to be held in downtown Shreveport during the second weekend of Prize Fest on October 21.
For Come and Get It, each local chef will be paired with a visiting celebrity chef to collaborate to create a unique and incredible tasting. These tastings will be presented to and tasted by attendees and a panel of judges. The judges will rate and score the dishes, and the winning team will be crowned the Golden Fork champions that evening. The local chef winner will take home the coveted Golden Fork trophy and $2,500 cash grand prize, and the celebrity chef winner will receive $1,000 cash. Attendees will also be able to vote and choose the audience’s choice, which awards the local chef $1,000.
“This year’s lineup of chefs shows that our town is becoming a culinary mecca and this year’s Food Prize at Prize Fest will be an experience second to none,” said Gregory Kallenberg, founder and executive director of the Prize Foundation. “Thank you to all the chefs who participated and congrats to this year’s Food Prize Golden Class of 2022!”
In order to be considered for the Come and Get It, twelve local chefs had the opportunity to host dinners during the Golden Fork Dinner Series this past spring and summer. Attendees of each six-dinner session scored the chefs on their performances, and the three highest scoring chefs from each event graduated into the finals. The seventh wildcard finalist was selected by the Golden Fork Save Your Chef online competition where fans voted their favorite into the running for the championship.
Celebrity chef pairings for Come and Get It will be determined by lottery and announced in September.
