I recently had an amazing opportunity to visit a unique, local business called Steve’s Snaketuary. Steve Kennedy, owner of Steve’s Snaketuary, hopes to change the perception of snakes through education.
Much to his parents’ displeasure, Kennedy has been a fan of snakes from a very young age. After marrying, with his wife’s support, he bought a little corn snake. One turned to two, two turned to four, and his passion soon became a business.
As others learned about his passion for these reptiles, he began hearing the horror stories of people killing them while hunting and similar incidents. He encouraged others to give him a call if they encountered a snake. This in turn led to many local firefighters and others calling him for local snake rescues, and even Hollywood calling his name!
That’s right, we’ve got celebrities right in our own backyard! Many of the snakes at the Snaketuary have been featured in movies and TV shows, where Kennedy has served as snake wrangler. He’s currently providing several “reptile celebrities” for, The Vanishings at Caddo Lake, a feature film currently filming in Shreveport.
Kennedy’s facility has everything from large pythons to baby rattlers, and everything in between. He even has a signature hot sauce line, with heat levels and flavors tailored to types of snakes. The line includes six different flavors.
Visiting gives you a new-found appreciation for these reptiles! I had the opportunity to hold and even feed several of the snakes. It was quite an experience!
Kennedy is available for educational presentations, scout groups, birthday parties, and more. If you’re interested in setting up an event with Steve’s Snaketuary, you can give them a call at (318) 525-6241 or send them an email at info@snaketuary.com.
