Shreve Memorial Library Hamilton/South Caddo Branch welcomes local author Paul Savage, Jr. on Wednesday, August 10, for an author chat and book signing. Diary of a Testicular Cancer Survivor is a memoir in which Savage delivers an inspirational conviction of courage that guides others to dig deep inside themselves to find positivity, faith, and even happiness when faced with some of life’s biggest battles. The event takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the branch, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

Paul Savage, Jr. is a Shreveport marketing and communication professional. He published his story of surviving testicular cancer during the coronavirus pandemic.  After his diagnosis in February 2020, he made the unusual decision to create an online blog where he journaled his entire experience. Those entries, along with photos from his journey, form the basis for his book.

Savage would ultimately require an orchiectomy, three rounds of rigorous chemo, and a Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND) to get to an “in remission” status almost a year later. His uncensored story of surviving testicular cancer during a worldwide pandemic will bring readers on a rollercoaster of emotions covering an 18-month period of his life. From channeling strength during tough times, to the difficult thoughts and questions many cancer patients face, Savage talks about his most personal thoughts and experiences.

“As I approach the one year anniversary of my remission date it still amazes me that people continue to discover and feel inspired by my story,” said Savage. “I want to find new ways to use my voice and raise awareness about this awful disease.”

During the author chat, Savage will read and discuss his memoir followed by a Q&A session. The program is free and open to the public. Savage’s paperback books are available for purchase for $12.89 or download the Kindle Edition for $3.99.
