LSU Health Shreveport has named a new CFO. Ramey A. Benfield, PhD, MBA, MS will begin his service as LSU Health Shreveport’s Chief Financial Officer on June 1, 2024. As Chief Financial Officer, Benfield will oversee all matters related to finance at LSUHS. In addition, he will serve as a key partner in strategic decision making by providing financial analysis, strategy, and business plans to university leadership. He will direct the functions of general accounting, billing, accounts payable, direct pay, travel, bursar operations, payroll, purchasing, auxiliary services and all financial aspects of research grant management.
Ramey A. Benfield’s experience
Benfield brings in-depth and valued experience having served as the Associate Vice President Business Affairs and Operations and the Assistant Vice President for Administrative Services at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. He previously served as the Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration at the Texas A&M University Irema Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy for thirteen years.
Prior positions in Houston at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the DeBakey Heart Center launched a career in health care and medical education finance, which yielded a proven record in improving financial processes and outcomes through use of business intelligence, managing and mentoring large teams, creation of consistent financial reporting throughout organizations while building a culture of customer service and accountability.

Ramey A. Benfield received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Clinical Gerontology from Baylor University, followed by a Master of Business Administration in Finance at University of St. Thomas in Houston and most recently his Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration at the University of Phoenix.
