LSU Health Shreveport (LSUHS) proudly hosted its 6th Annual Research Celebration on Thursday, February 15, inviting members of the community, as well as LSUHS employees and students, to reflect on the remarkable accomplishments of the past year within the LSU Health Shreveport Office for Research.
LSU Health Shreveport’s 2023 Achievements
The event served as a platform to highlight the significant achievements and milestones attained by LSU Health Shreveport, showcasing the institution’s commitment to excellence in research and innovation. Among the key highlights shared during the celebration were:
- Extramural Grant Funding: LSU Health Shreveport secured over $23 million in extramural grant funding during fiscal year 2023, with an additional $20 million awarded in fiscal year 2024 to date. These funds underscore the institution’s dedication to advancing cutting-edge research initiatives.
- Clinical Trials Success: LSUHS conducted more than 100 clinical trials, demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity in participant enrollment. Notably, LSUHS ranked as the No. 1 site for participant enrollment in 2023 for two national studies: the Surgical Timing and Rehabilitation Trial for Multiple Ligament Knee Injuries (STaR) and the Black and African American Connections to Parkinson’s Disease (BLAAC-PD) study.
- New Grants and Collaborations: The institution announced new grants and collaborations slated to commence in 2024, further expanding its research portfolio and fostering interdisciplinary partnerships.
- Facility Tour: Attendees had the opportunity to tour the Center of Excellence for Emerging Viral Threats BSL-2, BSL-3, and training laboratories housed within the state-of-the-art Center for Medical Education, showcasing LSUHS’s commitment to cutting-edge research infrastructure.
2024 Research Excellent Award Winners
The LSU Health Shreveport Office for Research honored outstanding individuals during the event with the 2024 Research Excellence Awards, recognizing their significant contributions to the field:
- Excellence in Extramural Funding: Quanguang Zhang, PhD
- Excellence in Translational Research: Elizabeth Disbrow, PhD
- Excellence in Innovation: Arrigo De Benedetti, PhD
- Research Rising Star: Krista Rodgers, PhD
- Community Champion: Mr. W. Clinton “Bubba” Rasberry, Jr.
Dr. Sushil Jain was celebrated with a Career Service Award for his remarkable 42+ years of dedicated service to the institution and his invaluable contributions to the field of science.
