Have you ever seen something in your neighborhood or community that could be improved if someone took action? Many of us have, but the question often remains: how do we make it happen? ReForm Shreveport invites you to find the answers at their free workshop, “How to Create a Revitalization Project,” on Wednesday, August 21st, at 5:30 PM at the Andress Artist & Entrepreneur Center.
“So many people have great ideas for improving their communities but don’t know where to start,” says Tim Wright, President of ReForm Shreveport. “At our workshop, you can learn the tricks of the trade and practical methods for getting things done in your neighborhood.”
During the workshop, ReForm Shreveport will share the process behind some of its successful revitalization projects in Highland Park, Caddo Common, Downtown, and other areas. Additionally, three local community leaders will share their experiences in creating revitalization projects right here in Shreveport.
Guest Speakers
The guest speakers include:
- Kalli Combs, founder of Social Pal Kal and coordinator of community improvement events with the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce, including the recent downtown pop-up market during Humor & Harmony Weekend.
- Sarah Lowder, owner of Lowder Baking Company, spearheaded a major project to enhance the vibrancy of the Ockley Street Bridge area, benefiting those who live, work, and commute nearby.
- Madison Poche, Director of The Highland Center and former President of the Highland Neighborhood Association, who has led multiple initiatives to improve Columbia Park and bus routes in the Highland area.
“Kalli, Sarah, and Madison have all done the hard work of getting projects off the ground in our city,” says LeVette Fuller, ReForm Shreveport founding member and former councilwoman. “Their stories not only provide valuable insights into collaborating with the city, parish, businesses, and residents but also inspire us as an organization to do more in spreading hope and excitement through community revitalization.”
