Mayor Tom Arceneaux praised the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) for their exceptional bravery and dedication in combating a formidable three-alarm fire at Pratt Industries on March 15, 2025.
“Our firefighters faced an extraordinary challenge this past Saturday, and their response was nothing short of heroic,” said Mayor Arceneaux. “Led by Chief of the Shreveport Fire Department Clarence Reese, Jr., their swift action and unwavering commitment ensured the safety of our community and minimized potential damage.” The incident began when bales of compacted paper and cardboard ignited, rapidly escalating due to heavy wind conditions and the combustible nature of the materials. The fire engulfed an area containing over 9,500 tons of baled paper products, presenting significant challenges to containment efforts.
The City of Shreveport is thankful for the neighboring firemen who came to help. More than 100 firefighters from multiple agencies, including Bossier City Fire, Caddo Fire Districts 4, 5, 6, and 7, and a tanker from DeSoto Parish, joined forces to battle the fire. Their coordinated efforts and exceptional skill were instrumental in bringing the situation under control.
This was an extraordinary display of teamwork and dedication demonstrated by all involved agencies. Their unified efforts exemplify the resilience and cooperation that define our community. “This incident highlights not only the skill and bravery of our firefighters but also the exceptional leadership of Chief Reese,” Mayor Arceneaux added. “His command and coordination ensured that this fire was contained as quickly and safely as possible. We are grateful for his service and the dedication of every firefighter who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our community.”
