Marvkevea Campbell, owner of Marvkevea’s Learning Center, is hosting his annual Marv Challenges U school supply, an initiative dedicated to supporting the children of northwest Louisiana. The challenge is now in its seventh year.
“I wanted to get everyone involved,” Campbell shared. “To come together as a community and help the children of northwest Louisiana.” The challenge began with Campbell tagging 10 people on social media to make a donation, and it quickly grew as others followed suit.
As technology becomes increasingly essential in classrooms, the list of needed supplies has evolved. “Headphones and other technologies are now frequent items on the lists for community youth,” Campbell explained.
To facilitate donations, the challenge has an Amazon wish list where supporters can find and purchase the needed supplies. The Marvkevea Challenges U Amazon wish list is available here. Donations of any amount are also welcomed through their PayPal donation link.
“What makes the school supply drive so special is that it’s not your typical school supply drive,” Campbell shared. “We introduce the kids to motivational speakers in environments where they can engage with academic material.” The 7th Annual #MarvChallengesU will take place at Sci-Port Discovery Center on Sunday, August 4th at 2pm.
Despite the hard work put into the drive each year, Campbell says it’s worth it. “It makes you feel like you’ve done something right,” he shared. “At the end of the day, it’s about doing everything possible to help any child start the year strong, with confidence, and feeling equipped with what they need.”
This year, the challenge is hosting their motivational speaker at the Sci-Port Discovery Center in downtown Shreveport. “They’re going to have the chance to experience STEM/STEAM activities they may not have had before,” Campbell added.
