The North Shreveport Lions Club, in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard, is proud to host Coast Guard Appreciation Day – Honoring Our Heroes on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Stoner Boat Launch in Shreveport, Louisiana. This special event is free and open to the public.
Coast Guard Appreciation Day will honor the service and dedication of the U.S. Coast Guard, including active duty members, reservists, auxiliarists, recruiters, and veterans. Attendees can look forward to a public celebration featuring a tour of the U.S. Coast Guard’s 65’ buoy tender and static displays of police and fire boats from agencies including Caddo Fire Districts 1 and 6, Shreveport Fire, Shreveport Police, Caddo Sheriff, Bossier Sheriff, Bossier Fire, and Louisiana Fish and Wildlife.
The festivities will begin with the National Anthem performed by the Magnolia School of Excellence “Anchor of Sound” Marching Band, followed by a Color Guard presentation by the Louisiana National Guard. The event will feature proclamations presented by the Mayors of Shreveport and Bossier City, as well as a proclamation from Congressman Mike Johnson’s office. Attendees will also hear remarks from BMCS Robert Guidry, Officer in Charge of the 65’ buoy tender.
The North Shreveport Lions Club will serve delicious hamburgers and hot dogs, and Coast Guard recruiters will be available with career information. Seating will be provided by NLTCC, who will also host an informational booth. Special recognition will be given to Red River Waterway Commissioners Ron Lattier, Versa Clark, and Charlie Greer for their support and for providing the venue, with additional thanks extended to the Executive Directors of the Red River Valley Association and the Port of Caddo-Bossier.
Behind the scenes, the Red River Waterway Commission has played a crucial role by assisting with event setup and providing the Stoner Boat Launch & Recreation Area.
The event program includes performances by the Magnolia School of Excellence “Anchor of Sound” Marching Band, presentations by local leaders, proclamations honoring the Coast Guard, remarks from BMCS Robert Guidry, and tours of the 65’ buoy tender. Coast Guard personnel will stand in formation during the event, facing the audience.
