After over two decades, the legendary Battle of the Bands is making a triumphant return to Caddo Magnet High School! Scheduled for Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2pm to 4pm. This high-energy musical showdown will mark the finale of Alumni Weekend, celebrating the school’s rich tradition of creativity, talent, and community engagement.
“The revival of Battle of the Bands is more than just a concert. It’s a testament to the talent, passion, and creativity of our students,” says Caddo Magnet Principal RJ Middleton. “Magnet has always been a place where the arts thrive, and this event provides a platform for young musicians to showcase their hard work and energy in front of a live audience..”
This year, four student-led bands — Born Toxic, Little Kitty Meow Meow, Pose 28, and Signs of Stress — will take center stage in the CMHS Gymnasium. Each will bring their unique sound, a mix of rock, alternative, funk, and more, with electrifying 25-minute performances complete with professional sound and lighting. The audience and a panel of judges will determine the winners, with awards for Grand Prize and Audience Choice.
The Battle of the Bands originated from Caddo Magnet’s long-standing tradition of talent shows, offering a dedicated platform for musical acts. It became a beloved annual event, drawing hundreds of attendees and igniting school spirit. Although it ended in 2004, the revival reflects the resurgence of student-led bands and a growing passion for live music.
“Playing in Battle of the Bands at Caddo Magnet was a defining moment in my journey as a musician. It gave me my first real taste of performing in front of a crowd and the thrill of live music,” said Battle of the Bands organizer and former student musician Dexter Duran of The Hollow Decks. “Seeing it come back after all these years is incredible, and I can’t wait to see the next generation of bands step up and make their mark.”
More than just a concert, the organizers of the event have provided hands-on learning and skill-building through the spring. Student band members have been engaged in workshops this spring to hone their talents with area musicians. By collaborating with professionals, the students have developed practical skills while pursuing their artistic passions.
Caddo Magnet Battle of the Bands is open to all. Tickets will be sold for $5 at the door, ensuring the entire community can join in the fun, and the first 150 Caddo Magnet students will enter for free. Each ticket includes a vote for the Audience Choice award, empowering attendees to be part of the action. Don’t miss this epic celebration of youth talent and creativity.
